Spring Collection Launch
This season, we bring you delicate, feminine shapes, sharp tailoring, fine summer knitwear and striking prints – pieces that are both stylish and utterly wearable.

The collection is the culmination of over a years hard work, in which we’ve expanded our UK design team three fold. This has allowed us give more technical assistance to producers, improve tailoring skills, and produce what we believe to be our best collection to date.

Take a look – we hope you like it too!

Sisi Embellished Tunic £65 Our spring catalogue is a bit special because for the first time we did our photo shoot at one of our producer groups in Bangladesh.

Last October we travelled out to Swallows, one of our handweaving groups. It was Sarah, Safia’s PA’s first trip to visit our producers.

She said:

“Dhaka was a bit of a sensory overload of noise, heat and traffic. But Arriving at Swallows five hour outside we were welcomed by an instant sense of calm."

“There’s a school, day care centre and handicraft centre, in which there’s a real sense of community where the women chat and laugh together whilst they work. As we walked through the village a hundred little voices asked ‘what is your name?’; the children are all keen to practice English and looked inquisitively at our reflectors and camera equipement."

"It was an extremely busy trip, and by the end of the week we were all exhausted but everyone had been so welcoming and helpful that it was a very sad morning the day we had to leave.”

Glossy, pouting models might seem rather incongruous in this setting, but for People Tree it’s just two sides of one coin – what the business is really about – using fashion to improve the lives of others.

It’s great for us to be able to show you the people who make our clothing and the places they’re made too.

In fact we have updated our website so with each garment you can find out about the producer group that made it. (Look out for the ‘Who made this?’ box on product pages.)

Emilie, our volunteer model, with Swallows weavers and tailors.
Morzia, 50, has worked in the sewing section at Swallows for 13 years, enabling her to be the main breadwinner of her family and raise three children.
Rozifa received her training at Swallows over 25 years ago.
Rumi’s daughter attends the day care centre, so Rumi can go to work at the Swallows sewing unit, where she has worked for a year.
Sapna is 37 years old and has been employed by Swallows for 14 years, she has two children.

Fair Trade has allowed them to earn double what they could earn elsewhere. They also have access to medical support and loans to enable their children to go onto further education and improve their lives.

  Cosmopolitan Online Fashion Awards

Last Thursday People Tree won the Cosmopolitan award for ‘Best Ethical E-tailer’.

We were really pleased because the award was voted for by thousands of Cosmopolitan readers, which really shows that Fair Trade fashion has the potential to go mainstream.

Eco bonding

For the new catalogue Safia met up with Zac Goldsmith; ecologist, politician and editor of The Ecologist to find out what they had in common.

They talked food security, farmer’s unions, and the social and environmental costs that businesses are failing to take into account.

Moko earrings £14 Bombolulu & Trinity Workshops

Recently we wrote to you about the plight of our Kenyan jewellery producers, whose incomes halved when tourism ground to a halt during the post election violence.

We had an absolutely fantastic response, with kind messages of support and a huge increase in sales of their jewellery, which is vital to these groups if they are to avoid making staff redundant.

Thank you so much for all your support, please keep up the momentum.

Bombolulu and Trinity have created some beautiful new designs for our new collection.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Riad El Cadi, Riad Aguerzane and Riad 107 for letting us shoot pictures for our online collection in their beautiful, traditional Moroccan Riads.
